Katerina Douma received her degree as a Doctor in Dental Surgery Dental, DDS, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with continuous scholarships during her studies, and an honorary distinction from the State Scholarships Foundation upon her graduation among the top students in her class.
She obtained full specialization in Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Orthopedics at the University of Louisville, USA with scholarships, while completing extensive research work on patients who underwent Class II orthognathic surgeries. She completed her PhD thesis at the Department of Orthodontics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a unanimous "Excellent" in 2004. In 2019, after new, particularly demanding exams in the USA, she received the title of "Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists".
She is President of the "Greek Orthodontic Aligner Society", a scientific society that promotes new, digitalized orthodontic treatment methods.
She was a scientific associate at the Department of Orthodontics of the University of Athens, where she completed her doctoral thesis based on a clinical and radiographic study of children with skeletal prognathism of the mandible, which was unanimously graded "Excellent".
She taught as a clinical assistant professor at the postgraduate department of Orthodontics of the European University College, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
She specializes in cutting-edge orthodontic techniques, emphasizing digital technology to achieve optimal results for patients and is one of the first orthodontists to implement the new treatments with aligners in Greece. She deals with treatments for children, adolescents and adults with emphasis on new technologies and comprehensive excellent results.
She participates as an invited speaker with presentations and publications at conferences in Greece, Europe, the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
She is an active member of the Greek and international scientific organizations ABO, AAO, WFO, International College of Dentists, EAS, GOAS, GAOSR, GRESLO, former member of the committee for the specialty of Orthodontics of the Ministry of Health and has represented GAOSR at the World Council of Orthodontists in 2022.
She has served as Vice President of the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Maroussi and member of the Board of Directors of the Nursery Schools of the Municipality of Maroussi and the Public Benefit Solidarity Enterprise. She has participated as a volunteer in the Minor Migrant Structure of the European Expression.
She is married to dermatologist Markos Michelakis and mother of three children, graduates of Medicine, Dentistry and International Business. They all support social and charitable organizations aimed at promoting health, offering services in collaboration with national bodies such as EDDPYY, the Medical Association of Athens, the Municipality of Maroussi, the “Smile of the Child” and international ones such as the “Special Olympics".
